Beer School

About Beer School

Greg Browne has hosted Map Room Beer Schools since a February blizzard over 20 years ago when he blew our minds. Thinking we were sitting down to a simple beer tasting, Greg astonished our small group by revealing beer’s depth and complexity, its roots in cultural traditions, and the stunning variety of flavors and characteristics that different malts, yeast, hops, and water could contribute to a beer’s profile.

Brewmaster at Mickey Finn’s in Libertyville, Illinois, Greg teaches seasonal Beer Schools at the Map Room. Tickets go on sale at the bar 3 weeks before Beer School. $25/person, limit 2/person. We are cash only but have two ATMs in the bar for your convenience.

Beer Schools start promptly at 4 pm. Late arrivals will not be allowed to catch up on beers they’ve missed. Please, listen to Greg when he’s speaking. There will be plenty of time for socializing between beers.

Anyone interested in setting up private Beer Schools may contact Laura. We’re not always able to get Greg to teach private schools (he’s busy!!!), but we are lucky enough to have access to a few other beer lovers up to the task.

Our next beer school will be held Spring 2015. Stay tuned for details.
